Ebay is a website that is aimed at anybody(primarily adults) to sell their unwanted items to anybody who wants it. People can sell to others across the world, but shipping prices often mean, that people try to stick to their own country or continent.
The bidding system is an interesting one. If there are infact 2 interested parties things get a little more complicated. It starts as one person laying down a base price; if another is interested they must raise it by a certain amount. The other then must raise theirs by at least 50p (.co.uk only). The origional one can keep up with the other by raising it to as high as they like, the other however, doesn't know this has happened and can raise theirs by a minimum of 50p.
The best tactic is to wait till the last few seconds to boost the bid by a significant amount so that it puts you ahead, with so little time left for the other to react, making you the winner.
Another useful feature is that some people don't just want to put their item up for biddings. Some people simply want a set amount for it, so they put a price on it, generally with extra for the posting
