Using google groups, uder the search of digital divide brought up one that really stuck out: http://groups.google.co.uk/group/bnyee/browse_thread/thread/2257a0b587674154/8a6adbbd5056abee?hl=en&lnk=st&q=#8a6adbbd5056abee
This web page informed me of how in the west (the us in particular) internet broadband can come into the max of about 2% of an average persons income. This seems like a fairly large percentage; however, compared with another statistic- 900% it seems almost like a pathetically small amount, so miniscule that it is practically insignificant.
What i learned from the digital divide, is that there are also 6 "essential conditions" to overcome the digital divide:
* basic literary skills;
* access to information and communications technologies;
* access to content in the student’s language;
* ability to create and share digital content;
* teachers who can teach with digital resources; and
* effective leadership in educational policy and planning.
it seems there is alot that weighs on whether the western world can be competant enough to keep up with the education of technology. However, most of the wealthy countries can overcome this by being competant and being able to speak a variety of languages (English being the major one), so that we can share our breakthroughs with other countries.
